Texas-issued records go the other way, to the state's single authenticating office in Austin. Nothing is authenticated in Dallas or in Fort Worth, and the metro's size does not buy it a local counter.

It matters for ordering a certified copy in the first place, because you order from the division that holds the case.
Is there an apostille office in Dallas or Fort Worth?+
No. Texas has one authenticating authority, in Austin, for state-issued and notarised documents, and federal documents go only to Washington, DC. Neither Dallas nor Fort Worth has a counter, and no county clerk in the metro can issue an apostille.
My employer is relocating me to Mexico and wants an apostilled background check. Which one?+
Ask them to specify, because "background check" covers two very different documents. An FBI Identity History Summary is federal and is apostilled in Washington. A Texas DPS state criminal history record is a state document and is authenticated in Austin. Employers often write "FBI check" when the destination authority will accept either — and sometimes the reverse.
I live in Plano but my birth certificate is from Ohio. Where does it go?+
To Ohio. An apostille comes from the state that issued the record, not the state you live in, so an Ohio birth certificate is authenticated by Ohio's authenticating office regardless of where you are now. Living in Texas changes nothing except the shipping.
Can a DFW notary notarise a document that will be used in another state?+
Yes, but the authentication follows the notary. A Texas notary's acknowledgement is authenticated by Texas, so a document notarised in Plano goes to Austin even if it will ultimately be used in Georgia or overseas. If the receiving party specifically requires another state's apostille, the document has to be notarised in that state instead.
How fast can a DFW order realistically move?+
The transit legs are the fastest part — overnight each way from DFW is dependable. What sets the total is the authenticating office's own queue plus, for a vital record, the time to obtain a certified copy from the issuing county. Do I need to send original documents or are copies enough?+
