24–48 Hours

FBI processing time

Walk-in

Fingerprinting, minutes not weeks

Hand-delivered

Federal apostille in Washington DC

In the US, the FBI is the fast part. The apostille is where time goes.

Almost everyone assumes the FBI is the slow step. Inside the United States it is not — an electronic submission comes back in a day or two. What costs people weeks is the authentication that has to happen afterwards, and the order the two steps have to happen in.

On your own

  • Finding a site that submits electronically rather than mailing a card
  • A rejected fingerprint capture means starting over
  • The report mailed into the Department of State's standard queue
  • A report that arrives apostilled but in the wrong name format, and is refused

Full service

  • One walk-in appointment, quality checked on the spot
  • Electronic submission, results in 24 to 48 hours
  • Hand-delivered to the Department of State, not mailed in
  • Checked against your destination's requirements before it ships

You do one thing — attend the appointment. Everything after it is ours, and you are told where the document is at each step.

An apostille can only be issued on the report as the FBI produced it. If the report has to be reissued for any reason, the authentication starts again with it — which is why the capture being right the first time matters more than it sounds.

Four steps

How it works when you are in the United States

  1. 1

    Order online

Pick your package and pay. We confirm the same day and message you to arrange your fingerprint visit.

  2. 2

    Walk in and get fingerprinted

You attend a participating fingerprinting site near you. The appointment itself takes minutes, and your prints are checked for quality before they are submitted.

  3. 3

    Electronic FBI submission

We submit directly to the FBI system rather than mailing a card. Results typically arrive in 24 to 48 hours.

  4. 4

    Federal apostille in Washington DC

On the Full Service package we hand-deliver your report to the U.S. Department of State for authentication, then send the finished set to you tracked.

One charge we do not collect: $50 at the site

Both packages below include every government fee — the FBI's and the Department of State's. They do not include the fingerprinting site's own fee, which is $50, is charged by that site at the counter, and is not a government fee. We never collect it and never mark it up, so it is not ours to include.

Budget $50 on top of the package price, paid directly at the fingerprinting site on the day of your appointment. It applies to both packages, because both start with the same fingerprint capture.

Questions before you order

Why is there a $50 fee I pay separately?+

The fingerprinting site charges its own fee at the counter, and it is not a government fee — it is theirs, so we never collect it and never mark it up. Every other cost, including the FBI fee and the Department of State authentication fee, is inside the package price you see here.

How fast is it?+

The FBI report itself comes back in 24 to 48 hours once your fingerprints are captured, so the report-only package is usually about 3 to 5 business days end to end. Adding the federal apostille takes it to roughly 15 business days, because that step runs at the Department of State's pace rather than ours.

Do I need an apostille at all?+

Only if the report is going to a foreign government — a visa, residency, work permit, adoption or citizenship file. If an employer, a licensing board or you yourself are the reader, the report alone is what you need and the report-only package is the right one.

Do I have to travel to Washington DC?+

No. You attend one fingerprinting appointment near you, and we handle Washington DC ourselves — we hand-deliver your report to the U.S. Department of State rather than mailing it into the standard queue.

What if I am not in the United States?+

This package is priced around walking into a fingerprinting site in the US, so it is not the right one. We run a different process for applicants abroad, including fingerprint capture in your country — start from our guide to ordering from abroad, or message us and we will quote the right package for where you are.

Is my FBI report or my data shared with anyone?+

No. We obtain your own FBI Identity History Summary on your behalf and deliver it to you. This is not employment screening, and your report is not shared with a third party.

One appointment. We handle the rest.

Get your official FBI report in 24 to 48 hours, and — if it is going to a foreign government — the federal apostille hand-delivered in Washington DC.
